Jackie Bowie on BBC TV: bank stress tests and financial stability
The Bank of England’s latest stress tests show U.K. banks remain resilient, even under severe economic scenarios.
Speaking on BBC Television, Jackie Bowie, Managing Partner at risk management firm Chatham Financial, said the results highlight how much stronger the banking system is compared with the pre-financial crisis era.

“These tests assume very extreme conditions — higher interest rates, persistent inflation, and a sharp economic downturn,” Bowie said. “The fact that banks remain resilient under those assumptions is a positive signal.”
Bowie noted that stronger capital buffers and more rigorous regulation since the financial crisis have materially improved stability. While the findings support confidence in the system, she added that ongoing scrutiny remains essential as economic conditions continue to evolve.
